Ralph Macchio Calls 'Karate Kid' Remake 'Well-Done'
Ralph Macchio, star of the original Karate Kid, called the new version starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan "well-done" and "effective."

"It is bigger, the fighting's more intense, and the landscape is international," Macchio told MTV News. "They are two different movies with the same story."

The remake of the 1984 film takes place in Beijing and involves kung fu rather than karate.

Macchio also commented on the relationship between Jackie Chan (who plays the role of Miyagi) and Jaden Smith. "Jaden and Jackie have strong chemistry, which is important."

The film exceeded expectations with an estimated $56 million in its debut weekend, while the big-screen version of The A-Team brought in $26 million.

"What makes Karate Kid such a timeless story is the relatable human element," Macchio added.
